Elizabethan Music
Elizabethan Composers
Elizabethan Musicians composed music for musical instruments and the voice. The Elizabethan Golden Age saw the emergence of the Anthem, the Madrigal, the Masque and Opera. The emergence of new English music schools. And great Elizabethan Composers such as William Byrd (1543-1623), Thomas Campion (1567-1620), John Dowland (1563-1626), John Farmer (1570-1601), Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625), Robert Johnson (1500-1560) and Thomas Tallis (1505-1585). Combinations of musical instruments, as in the modern orchestra, were still in the experimental stage but provided the opportunity to create unusual and creative music. Queen Elizabeth was a patron of all the Arts and encouraged Elizabethan Composers . Music and Song lyrics were printed during the Elizabethan era but these were sold as separate documents! The Elizabethan composer John Dowland (1563-1626), a University Graduate in Music, published his ' First Booke of Songes or Ayres' in 1597. It became a best seller and highly profitable to the Publisher. Other popular composers followed suit!

October 2009 production ideas
- Night Must Fall by Emlyn Williams, a thriller suggested by Adrian
- The Art of Course Acting by Michael Green, suggested by Sue
- Dad's Army, suggested by Wayne (if it arrives in time)
The Lion in Winter by James Goldman (you may have seen the film with Peter O'Toole & Katharine Hepburn).
Gill is keen to direct, so this is a likely contender for the October production.

comments for AdHoc bible
read the script very early and have a discussion with the director (spoke to phil end jan for the end of may production) to get ideas of what is or is not important. some of the sounds can be tricky to source. Example the radio DJ in Steel Magnolias, this could be recorded in advance by an actor then overlaid with music or effects or it could be recorded live on stage might require some background us radio which could take a while to find.
also early discussions on music are very helpful so the sound man can explore the right genres better. Example I have a bit of Country and Zydeco in my music collection but I can now concentrate on both genres more until may
